EAR.24.I
An homage to earthen textures, this piece surrendered to gravity pull to form a sculptural landscape. Volcanic ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull serves as the foundation of this work, its ancient mineral memory embedded within the oxidized brown glaze. The rich surface combines this primal element with repurposed glass culled from shared moments at the community ceramic studio, where empty wine bottles were broken down and transformed.
Mounted on hand welded backing crafted by Taylor Forrest Studios in New York's Hudson Valley, the piece is completed by custom metalwork oxidized to a deep gunmetal black. The sculpture is illuminated by dimmable LED lighting, offering control over its luminous presence, and can be configured for either hardwire installation or plug in convenience. When lit, EAR.24.I reveals the subtle topographies of its surface, each ridge and valley casting shadows that speak to the terrain of shared experience and geological time.
