PIT.24.IV
This sculpture materialized through a dramatic plunge of clay yielding to gravitational forces as it folded into its final form. This piece from the PIT firing series is made of deep, smokey charcoal shadows embracing the edges like twilight descending on a landscape, while fiery crimson markings streak boldly across its center, gradually softening into delicate wisps of silver gray smoke. This interplay of darkness and ember emerged through pit firing at The Oki Doki Studio in the Hudson Valley of New York, where carefully arranged organic materials, seaweed, copper, iron, and foraged botanicals, surrendered their essence to the flames.
Mounted on hand welded backing crafted by Taylor Forrest Studios in New York's Hudson Valley, the piece is completed by custom metalwork oxidized to a deep gunmetal black. The sculpture is illuminated by dimmable LED lighting, offering control over its luminous presence, and can be configured for either hardwire installation or plug in convenience.
