MIR.24.III
Materialized through a dramatic descent, gravity formed this sculpture in the Fall of 2024. This piece solidified into rhythmic vertical gestures. Its lustrous surface captures a conversation between light and shadow, where deep mirrored obsidian glaze reveals subtle bronze undertones where the illumination caresses its contours. Incorporating ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull eruption fused within the ceramic body, the piece carries elemental memory of volcanic transformation.
Mounted on hand-welded backing crafted by Taylor Forrest Studios in New York's Hudson Valley, the piece is completed by custom metalwork oxidized to a deep gunmetal black. The sculpture is illuminated by dimmable LED lighting, offering control over its luminous presence, and can be configured for either hardwire installation or plug-in convenience. When activated, MIR.24.III becomes a meditation on depth and reflection – a vessel for both absorbing and projecting light's ethereal qualities.
